Milk Frother from Bodum

Bodum_Milk_FrotherThis week we love the automatic milk frother from Bodum.

Delicious, warm milk froth brings any cup of coffee to its perfection! From lattes to cappuccinos, the Mousse Battery Operated Milk Frother lets users prepare seductively smooth and dense milk foam with a simple push of a button; turning milk into frothy foam within 20 seconds.

The patented blender, a spiral attached to a stainless steel rod, can be adjusted according to the amount of milk you want to froth, thus not wasting any energy from the batteries. Frevd Espresso Maker

Frevd_Espresso_MakerThis week we love the Frevd espresso maker.

It's not only a beautiful piece of equipment to look at, but it also makes good coffee.

Simply put espresso-ground coffee in the filter basket, add cold water to the bottom compartment, screw together, and place on the stove. As the water boils, it is forced under super-heated pressure up through the ground coffee to make four shots of perfect espresso.

Unlike the more familiar Italian models, this pot's steam valve is aligned with the spout, so that your hand is always at 90¡ from escaping steam; the heat resistant handle is elevated a safe distance above the stove top; and the pliant silicone gasket forming a seal between the upper and lower compartments is made to last for years, not months.

As always, the signature Freud spout is drip-free and the wooden handle adds a touch of elegance.

Suitable for use on gas, electric and halogen hobs.

Height: 22cm
Capacity: 250ml

Locally available from Brompton Cross in Cape Town. Retails for R1 300.

Miele's latest

Miele_CM5100This week we love Miele's new counter top masterpiece - the CM5100.

Their latest coffee offering, the CM5100 espresso machine, is as good as it gets. Miele have in the past only offered built in coffee units, so this counter top machine is a first for them. The machine however doesn't disappoint and lives up to all the pre-launch hype.

The CM5100 features a built in grinder which can accommodate about 250g coffee beans. The machine grinds and brews at the touch of a button ensuring a fresh cup of coffee every time. The machine also boasts a handy steam wand for frothing milk and the electronic control panel will show you when the milk, water or beans are running low.

We also like the heated cup tray on top of the machine which is a useful feature often missing with smaller domestic machines. The brew unit can also easily be removed which makes cleaning quick and simple.

The CM5100 coffee machine retails from about R12 000. Available through Miele, visit www.miele.co.za to locate your nearest showroom.

Strada - the ultimate machine

lamarzocco_strada_mp_front_fullThis week we love the new Strada espresso machine from La Marzocco.

The machine all baristas and coffee shop owners dream of. In addition to La Marzocco's distinctive features like saturated brew groups, stainless steel boilers and PID system, the Strada is a new machine that allows the barista, for the first time, to have absolute and direct control of pressure at any point during extraction! Strada is a machine designed for and by baristas created with continuous design involvement by the La Marzocco Street Team, a panel of leading baristas, technicians and market experts from around the world, who gathered to participate in such topics as: machine design and ergonomics, extraction and quality in the cup.

The Strada will probably set you back between R80 000 and R100 000 depending on which model you buy, but then again it is the Rolls Royce (or Ferrari) of all coffee machines.

Locally available from Koldserve.

Travel Mug from Bodum

Bodum_Travel_Mug_-_BrownWith winter in full swing it's getting increasingly difficult to get out of bed in the mornings. But if you are a caffeine addict and you enjoy a steaming cup of java, then this might help kick-start your day.

Introducing the coffee making travel mug from Bodum. It operates on the same principle as a french press (or plunge pot) which means you will be able to enjoy freshly brewed coffee on the go. The travel mug is also ideal for outdoor trips and camping. It's made from durable rubber, plastic, silicone and stainless steel. The double wall mug also keeps your coffee hot and your fingers safe from burning.

This is how it works:

Boil your kettle, pop your favourite ground coffee into your mug, let it brew for about 4 minutes and Presto! Off you go with a steaming cup in hand.
