Female_BaristaLatte_artThe Gauteng Regional Barista Championships is just around the corner and some of the province's top baristas are getting ready for action. If the Cape Town and Durban champs are anything to go by, then Joburg promises to be a fantastic event. The competition will be on from the 5th to the 7th of November at the University of Johannesburg (Bunting road campus).

Good luck to those entering and may the best barista win!

The recent KZN Barista Championship held at the Pavilion Shopping Centre in Durban was a true reflection of the talent in the province. 34 barista’s from all over Kwa Zulu Natal competed for a place in next year’s finals where the South African barista champion for 2011 will be crowned. This barista will then go on to represent South Africa at the world championships in Colombia.

The Dieplsloot Barista Project is an initiative which was launched by the Joburg Coffee Club in association with its business partners and club members. The project aims to provide skills development for young men and women living in Joburg's townships, with the main purpose being job creation.

Potential candidates are identified and with the help of our generous business partners and volunteers, they undergo extensive training in the field of coffee and beverage preparation. At the end of the course, these baristas receive a certificate from the Joburg Coffee Club, enhancing their chance of securing a job in a restaurant or coffee shop. Where we can, we also help with placements.

Don't hesitate to contact us should you wish to be involved with the Diepsloot Barista Project.
